George Strait's Hangover Cure Is Pure Tex-Mex Healing

George Strait knows a thing or two about drinking. As an investor in Código tequila, he's a known agave juice enthusiast.

But what does the country music great do if he's had a bit too much to tipple? As the star revealed in a 2016 interview with The Daily Beast, he's got a go-to remedy in the face of a hangover cure.

“Yeah. There is [a favorite hangover remedy of mine] and it’s called menudo. It’s tripe soup. It’s very, very tasty. When I happen to have the occasional hangover, which I try not do, if I can get some menudo that’s what I get," Strait says to the news website.

The tripe soup is a savory combination of hominy, lime, spices and herbs, red chili peppers, and onions. Originating in Mexico, the traditional soup now has a strong following in Texas, eliciting love letters in the San Antonio Express-News and recipes from H-E-B, the famous Texas grocery chain. Given that Strait was born and raised in Texas, we're not surprised that he's a fan of this curative staple.
