George Clooney Opened Up About How Marrying Amal Changed His Life

The once-famed bachelor is now a Wife Guy.

George Clooney is not afraid to admit he's a Wife Guy.

In fact, GQ noted while interviewing him for one of the magazine's Icon of the Year issues this month, the once-famed bachelor "will tell you about [his wife] Amal unprompted and then return to the subject again without ever having been asked."

During the interview, Clooney gushed about his wife Amal, who he married in 2014.

"I was like, 'I'm never getting married. I'm not gonna have kids,'" he recalled of his single days, noting that he was happy with his life and career before he met the humanitarian rights lawyer.

"I'm gonna work, I've got great friends, my life is full, I'm doing well," he remembered thinking. "And I didn't know how un-full it was until I met Amal. And then everything changed. And I was like, 'Oh, actually, this has been a huge empty space.'"

Their marriage changed him, he said, "because I'd never been in the position where someone else's life was infinitely more important to me than my own. You know? And then tack on two more individuals, who are small and have to be fed.…"

The Clooneys met through a mutual friend in 2013, and tied the knot the following year in Italy. In 2017, they welcomed twins, Ella and Alexander.

In 2018, Amal discussed their relationship during a public speech for the first time at the American Film Institute’s Life Achievement Award Gala.

"I met George when I was 35 and starting to become quite resigned to the idea that I was going to be a spinster," she told the audience. "Then we met and started hiding out in my London flat and very soon it felt like, no matter what happened, I would never want to be with anyone else."
