George Clooney’s new film just got its first trailer. The Boys in the Boat, directed by Clooney, follows a University rowing team gunning for glory at the 1936 Summer Olympics set in Nazi-occupied Berlin.

It stars Callum Turner (Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore) as Joe Rantz, an underdog born during the Depression who takes on not only Harvard and Yale, but host nation Germany in his quest for a gold medal.

Joel Edgerton joins him as Al Ulbrickson, a strict coach who inspires his eight-man team of rowers to push themselves beyond their limits. The film is based on Daniel James Brown’s book The Boys in the Boat: Nine Americans and Their Epic Quest for Gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics.

It's Clooney’s first directorial job since poorly received sci-fi drama The Midnight Sky, but his previous efforts have drawn acclaim, including Good Night and Good Luck, The Ides of March, and Suburbicon.

The Boys in the Boat rows into cinemas on Christmas Day, December 25. Another historical epic is closer to launch, as the Oppenheimer digital release date is revealed. Before then, check out the debut trailer below.
