Kate Middleton and Prince William were guests of honour at the annual Royal Variety show last night, in what comedians Rob Beckett and Ramesh Ranganathan joked was a "date night" for the couple. That's one high profile date night indeed...
Headlining the show were the likes of Robbie Williams, Lewis Capaldi, and the cast of the new Mary Poppins West End show, who the Duke and Duchess greeted at the London Palladium before taking their seats in the royal box.
But it seems not everyone was impressed with William and Kate's night out: their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, who wanted to come along too. While speaking to actor Petula Clark, who plays the Bird Woman in the returning Mary Poppins stage show, Kate Middleton said the young Cambridges had been desperate to join their parents for the evening. In a video shared by royal correspondent Rebecca English on Twitter, Kate told six-year-old gymnast Aurelia, who performed at the Royal Variety Show, that George and Charlotte like to do cartwheels and handstands at home. CUTE.
Prince William particularly enjoyed hosts Rob Beckett and Ramesh Ranganathan's "date night" quip, nodding along jokingly in agreement. Ranganathan then went on to make another joke that went down well with the royals, hooked on the fact he also has three children. Suggesting that parents William and Kate must think the same thing as he does when they see their three young faces running into their bedroom every morning - "Why did we do this?" - the Duke and Duchess broke out in laughter.
The Royal Variety Show is an annual performance that's put on every year before Christmas. This year, William and Kate will be taking Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis to spend the festive season in Sandringham with Queen Elizabeth and the rest of the royal family.
Breaking from the tradition of the past two years, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have confirmed they won't be attending the royal Christmas in Norfolk. Instead, they'll be spending it quietly in an undisclosed location with baby Archie Harrison and Meghan's mum, Doria,
