Gentlest Belgian Malinois Is Waiting for a Home in Florida After Being Dumped and Left Behind

Learning about different dog breeds can be a great way to educate yourself before bringing home a new BFF, but it's also important to realize that breed standards can only predict so much. You could meet a purebred Siberian Husky, for example, who is as calm and quiet as can be! Your dog won't perform every behavior their breed is known for, and they may even look a little different than other dogs of the same breed. This is all normal, and it's just another reason why dogs are each so special!

Belgian Malinois and German Shepherds may be known for their work ethic, high energy, and love of activity, but one lucky Florida radio host got to meet a sweet shelter pup who marches to the beat of her own drum. Lucy is a beautiful young Shepherd mix waiting for a home at the Humane Society of Broward County, and Jade Alexander of Hits 97.3 hopes that their May 23 TikTok collab helps the right person come her way.

What a precious girl! It seemed like it would be impossible to resist Lucy's calming cuddles, and the smitten radio host confirmed my suspicions! Jade even said she's the most "chill German Shepherd Belgian Malinois mix I have ever met in my life," and that's saying something. This rescue advocate meets a lot of dogs! She makes weekly appearances on @humanebroward's social media channels to meet shelter dogs just like Lucy, but she rarely lies down for cuddles like this!

Since four-year-old Lucy was found abandoned, not much is known about her life before she came to the shelter. But what shelter staff does know about her they absolutely love! She's a very well-rounded dog who has no trouble staying calm in her kennel and running to her heart's content outside. She's known to entertain her friends with a few rounds of the zoomies or even by throwing her own toy to play!

Why Are There So Many Shepherds at the Shelter?

It's also meaningful when Jade says that Lucy is the most chill Shepherd she's met, because there are a lot of Shepherd dogs in the shelter. Jade tries to meet and promote dogs of different breeds, of course, but she's seen a lot of shelter Shepherds, too. Why is this?

In many cases, the adopters who come to the shelter are more open to small or medium-sized dogs. German Shepherds and Belgian Malinois need lots of space and time to exercise, but even that might not be enough. These working dog breeds also need jobs to do so they don't become understimulated and destructive, and not everyone can provide this.

However, there are also lots of people who can provide everything a Shepherd needs to thrive, and I know I'm not the only one keeping my fingers crossed that one of those people will find their way to Lucy soon.
