The Genius Soda Can Opening Hack That'll Save Your Nails

TikTok can be hit or miss when it comes to advice, but one TikToker is here with a refreshingly good tip for opening cans that'll low-key save your manicure.

Many of us have been there. You get your nails done and they look great, but then you're faced with a cold can that you have to open, which can do a number on your manicure. Luckily, TikTok's got a trick.

The hack comes in response to a TikTok from user @sooklyn, who presented a now-classic TikTok prompt back in December 2020: "What is something you found out late in life that you should have known earlier but just didn't?"

The prompt has made the rounds, prompting stitch after stitch, including one that lamented about the inaccurate proportions of maps.

But the most useful one to date comes from TikToker @ jordan_the_stallion8 who posted his stitch to his 10.1 million followers a few days ago, and let's just say...he nailed it.

How To Open a Soda Can Without Messing Up Your Nails

Jordan starts his video by calling attention to the bottom of a soda can.

"You'll see it has this extra little circular ridge here," Jordan says.

Personally, I never really noticed it, but Jordan explains that the bottom is circular to ensure the carbonation and pressure stay intact, allowing you to enjoy a fizzy can of soda (or seltzer or beer).

The history lesson continued.

"When soda cans were created in 1958, they didn't look like this," Jordan explains. "You want to know why?"

Yes, please.

"These soda cans are multi-purposeful, meaning that you can stack one on top of the other," Jordan says.

The stackability helps manufacturers, grocery stores, and you to store cans more efficiently. But it's more than that. Sit down and prepare for your mind to be blown.

Jordan stacks two soda cans and uses the top can to open the bottom.

"It's not a coincidence why they all stack so perfectly on top of each other," Jordan says. "If you just got your nails done [and] you don't want to mess them up, or it hurts your fingers to try to open them by themselves, just take a soda. Put it on top, and open it with another soda. Try it out."

"I gasped," one TikToker commented.

"My jaw is on the floor, sir," wrote another.

"Now I'm going to go buy soda just because," said another.

Open a Soda Can With Another Soda (In Slower Motion)

Jordan's tip was mind-blowing, but he went pretty fast. One commenter wrote, "I'm going to need you to do that slower."

Allow us to help.

A few months ago, another TikToker, @call_me_cookem, shared the trick using Twisted Teas and in slower motion. People's biggest mistake? Trying to pry it.

"Don't do that," the TikToker says. Another don't? Slamming the top can onto the bottom.

Instead:

  1. Keep both hands parallel to each other (don't twist your top wrist).

  2. Pretend the bottom ridge is like the tip of your finger, and snuggle it underneath the bottom can's pop top.

  3. Pull the top can toward you. "You want to be able to open all the way and not just crack it," he says.

Bottoms up.
