Making an elaborately shaped cake is something I never really thought I'd get into. I always thought of it as the type of thing you were only capable of doing if you had a baking show on TV or were like, the world's craftiest super-blogger mom. Not the case! With this easy recipe, you can make a skull shaped cake with stuff you probably already have in your kitchen.

To start, make two cakes: one round and one square. Cut the square one in half and the bottom third of the round one off. What to do with the scraps? Well, if you have more discipline than us and choose not to snack on them, perhaps cake pops? Join the two pieces and you have a skull! Frost it any way you'd like--we chose our favorite buttercream.

The fun part is decorating. We chose to pipe melted chocolate on for the face, but icing pens would look great as well. To give the face a little flair, we used mini MnM's to outline the eyes but I say, go wild with the candy. The crazier, the better. It is Halloween after all!
