  • Interior designer Genevieve Gorder launched a new design mobile game called Vineyard Valley on August 6.

  • Vineyard Valley has different work opportunities to renovate a resort, playing puzzles and earning coins to spend fixing up the property.

  • The 45-year-old consulted for Jam City, offering realistic and aspirational choices for players.

Best known for starring in the original Trading Spaces, Genevieve Gorder has gone on to make a name for herself in the interior design world. From HGTV's Dear Genevieve to Netflix’s Stay Here to Bravo's Best Room Wins, the Minneapolis native has tackled all kinds of home projects. And now, Genevieve has taken on a different definition of designing—this time, with her new mobile game called Vineyard Valley.

“I wanted to bring a little bit more of a real-world kind of aspirational design for the players,” Genevieve tells House Beautiful. “So often when choosing a dining table, a sofa, or even re-doing a garden, the choices aren’t ones that I would ever pick in the real world. It’s definitely an afterthought and by bringing in a designer, it’s like adding that last layer of pretty.”

After years of playing her share of mobile games, Genevieve is acting as a consultant, helping Jam City bring Vineyard Valley to life—an app in which players get to renovate a vineyard and other properties.

"I asked myself, 'What would people really want in their living rooms? What would that look like? How many coins would that it be worth?'" Genevieve explained to us. "It’s not just a sofa and a chair that make a living room, it’s the accessory that get people really excited, so let them earn that. Give them a library full of choices to make it beautiful."

The mother-slash-newlywed wanted to make sure that the choices were realistic and aspirational as possible because, according to her, the best part of playing mobile games is not having to commit to anything. "Players can see how to put a room together with real-world items and products that aren't even in stores yet, and maybe it will trigger an idea for their house," she said.

As with other mobile games, Vineyard Valley will consistently be updated with new features and designing packs will also be available as upgrades in the coming months. "I'm trying to implement style into the home-game world," Genevieve shared. "This is just the beginning of its life, and it’ll just keep growing and growing."

Vineyard Valley is available to download in the iTunes App store and Google Play store.
