Genesis donates over 1,000 shoes to Wichita students

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Hundreds of Wichita students have some fresh kicks.

Genesis Health Club donated more than a thousand pairs of shoes to students at Colvin Elementary School and Stanley Elementary School on Tuesday.

“This is our fifth year handing out shoes. This year, we’re gonna hand about 1,400 pairs of shoes, and at the end of the year, we will over the five years handed out over 6,000 pairs of shoes,” said DeAnn White, Executive Director of Genesis Foundation for Fitness and Tennis.

Students say they want to make the sneakers last.

“I’m gonna keep them, not dirty them. I’m gonna do this. They’re school shoes. I’m not gonna play in them, well yeah, I am gonna play in them, but not get them dirty,” said Hasina, who received new shoes.

They say the new shoes give them the confidence to achieve anything.

“My shoes feel so comfortable. It feels so comfortable. I feel like I can literally hop to the moon,” said Yeila and Sophia.

The program means kids have shoes that are new that fit and let kids focus on playing with friends and are comfortable when they learn.
