If you have a bag or two of flour taking up space in your kitchen cabinet, you'll definitely wanna give them a look tonight. This week, General Mills announced a recall of some Unbleached All Purpose Flour due to fears about a possible E. coli contamination.

According to General Mills' statement on the matter, the recall affects five-pound bags of Gold Medal Unbleached All Purpose Flour that have a "Better If Used By" date of September 6, 2020. The recall was announced after a sampling of the bags revealed the possibility of E. coli O26.

No illnesses have been reported and this recall is being issued out of an "abundance of caution." Still, it's always worth checking your baking stash when recalls like these are issued and not taking any risks. If you have other types of Gold Medal Flour, they should be safe.

If you do find this specific type of flour in your cabinet, you should take note of the UPC code and "Better If Used By" date before tossing it out. Once you dispose of it, you can call General Mills Consumer Relations at 1-800-230-8103 for a replacement coupon.

This is also a good reminder that you can't eat uncooked flour—sorry, raw cookie dough fans. Cooking baked goods thoroughly should kill bad bacteria, so make sure everything you cook or bake with flour is cooked through. Also please remember that if you put your flour in some chic jars to display in your kitchen, it may be worth saving the bag in case of a recall like this one.
