With Amazon Prime’s Gen V Season 1 coming to a close last weekend, it’s been confirmed how that particular spin-off series feeds into the upcoming Season 4 of The Boys.

The Season 1 finale of Gen V ended with two cameos - one a lot more significant than the other - with two of The Boys’ most popular characters.

Spoilers ahead for anyone who hasn’t yet watched episode 8 of Gen V, The Guardians of Godolkin.

The finale of Gen V Season 1 featured Homelander taking control of a very violent situation at Godolkin University, dividing the main characters and setting them up for Gen V Season 2.

It also featured a brief cameo from Billy Butcher, with the foul-mouthed antihero discovering experimental clinic The Woods.

All of which places Gen V in a timeline that leads directly to Season 4 of The Boys. In fact, showrunner Eric Kripke and co-showrunner Michele Fazekas, revealed to Variety that the virus central to Gen V Season 1 will also be a big part of The Boys Season 4.

“In our minds, it’s only a couple of days after whatever the events are of Gen V,” said Kripke. “We try to keep the timeline super simple because all that folding-in-on-itself timeline stuff that I think other comic book universes find themselves having to do is just bewildering for me as a viewer.

“So it’s all very modular. It’s like there’s Season 3 of The Boys, and then after that Gen V takes place, and then after that The Boys Season 4 takes place. And then after that, Gen V Season 2 takes place. It’s all more like cars on a train than it is a plate of spaghetti.”

There’s no release date yet for The Boys Season 4 or Gen V Season 2.
