“I’ve had a really exciting year, which I’m fortunate about,” said Gemma Chan ahead of last night’s Golden Globes. The Crazy Rich Asians star attended as an ambassador of Moët & Chandon’s charity initiative, Toast for a Cause, which celebrated its 10th anniversary last night. “We want to celebrate our nominees [and] I was thrilled when [Moët] asked me to be involved,” said Chan. “It’s a way that people in the industry can give back on this global stage.” Chan chose the Help Refugees U.K. charity for its ability to enact change at a local level. “I first got involved with them through volunteering at their yearly pop-up shop in Soho in London,” said Chan, who added, “in the space of two years they’ve become the largest provider of grassroots aid on the continent.”
Of course, Chan’s big night also involved taking in the fun and splendor of the Globes. Makeup artist Monika Blunder and hair stylist Clariss Anya Rubenstein created a modern, dewy beauty look, working with Chan’s stylist, Rebecca Corbin-Murray. Corbin-Murray selected a Pierpaolo Piccioli Valentino Haute Couture design for Chan’s first-ever Globes. “Bigger, more dramatic,” said Chan of her red carpet ethos for 2019. “Last year was quite sleek and sophisticated. I want to go for more drama.” Another goal for Chan and Corbin-Murray’s 2019 red carpet season is to focus on sustainability. “That’s something we should all be thinking about,” she added.
Above, Chan shares an inside look at her night.
