Tonight, the Thom Browne fashion show sent shock waves through Paris Fashion Week in more ways than one. There were the mostly gray, ultra-pronounced designs, which ran the gamut from maxi-shoulder tweed blazers to floral-embroidered bustier frocks. There were the bold runway music selections, including Madonna’s “Vogue” for pose striking and Baha Men’s “Who Let the Dogs Out” for ushering in an army of dog mask–clad gentlemen. And then there was the magnificent Marie Antoinette–inspired beauty—think 24-karat-tipped gazes and larger-than-life coifs.

While the silver, higher-than-the-heavens poufs literally brought the 18th century into the 21st century, it was the shimmering, sculpted gold crops sported by many of the models—including Anna Cleveland, Cindy Bruna, and Aiden Curtiss—that caused the biggest stir. The brainchild of hairstylist Eugene Souleiman, the aureate ’dos were crafted with French Renaissance–like precision, and thus were right at home inside the grand halls of the Hôtel de Ville. Considering that Kira Kira–worthy embellishments and makeup-for-hair techniques have each taken a feverish hold on fashion month, the show struck gold with its gilded abbreviated styles.
