All we want for Christmas? To see Mariah Carey live in concert! Last month, the 5-time Grammy award winning singer invited our editor at large, Gayle King, and her CBS Mornings team to her home in New York to discuss her latest children's book, The Christmas Princess. Then the self-proclaimed "Christmas Queen" announced that she would be doing two holiday shows at the legendary Madison Square Garden—and Gayle immediately texted Carey asking to buy two tickets.

Now all Gayle needed was the perfect companion. Enter: Her nephew Cameron Harrison, who has been singing the diva's songs since he was born into the Lambily (which is what Carey calls her fanbase). On December 16, the pair went to the most magical concert happening in the Big Apple—and now, Gayle is giving Oprah Daily readers a front-row seat to the experience.

Any diva knows they have to make an entrance, so it was no surprise that Carey floated down from a giant snowflake and started with a rendition of “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing,” flanked by a choir, life-size nutcrackers, and an extravagant backdrop. The singer performed a medley of Christmas carols and hits from her decades-spanning discography, like “Touch My Body” and “Fly Like a Bird” before closing with “All I Want for Christmas Is You.”

The highlight of the night was when Carey welcomed her daughter, Monroe, 11, onstage to duet “Away in a Manger.” Her son (and Monroe’s twin brother), Moroccan, also made a quick cameo and performed a skit.

Seeing Carey in concert put both Gayle and Cameron in the holiday spirit—even inspiring Cameron to finally put up his Christmas tree. But Gayle's favorite part of the show was watching Carey interact with her fans. “I’ve been to plenty of concerts before, but there’s something special between Mariah and her fans,” Gayle says, describing how she felt a sense of shared loyalty. “Mariah has always said that her fans have carried her through the highs and lows in her life, and I really believe that she means it.”
