Since Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale, once a '90s alternative rock power couple, split in 2015 after nearly 13 years of marriage, they have shared custody of their three sons, Kingston, 17, Zuma, 15, and Apollo, 10. Coparenting with an ex-spouse isn't always easy, and this week Rossdale shared his only regret when it comes to the apparent diplomatic relations between himself and Stefani.

The 58-year-old Bush frontman coincidentally made the remarks during an appearance on the most recent episode of the Amy and T.J. Podacast, hosted by scandalized former Good Morning America co-hosts Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes; both of whom know a little something about raising children amid divorce.

"My parents were both married three times each, you know, this sort of very colorful background," Rossdale explained. "And so I never thought I’d ever get divorced. So if there’s a simple shame in my life, it's that."

"I think that there’s no accidents in life and you are where you’re meant to be," he continued, stressing that he doesn't live in regret, even after everything that happened. "Life just unfolds how it should, and whether that's comfortable or uncomfortable, it is what it is. It's an easier philosophy to live by because it means you don't live in regret."

"But the biggest thing would be sometimes I wish that—when you see the kids, that sometimes there’s a loss, it’d be nice if there was more of a connection with the person who made them with me," Rossdale lamented, referring to Stefani, 54.

"So I feel bad for my kids, that’s it," he continued. "That's the overriding thing, the rest of it is like, it comes with the territory. But that would be the most profound thing of like, wish I could have just figured out a way to not have that in their lives, it wasn't fun for me to be from a broken home."

It can be quite debilitating for kids, so it's just that aspect of it," he added. "You don’t want to let your kids down."

Describing his custody agreement, Rossdale said that he shares his kids with Stefani "a week on, a week off." And more than anything, he just tries to stay "super present" in their lives, whether that means attending the kids extracurricular activities or giving them advice. Though, he joked that they generally don't want his advice, which is just par for the course when it comes to parenting teens.
