Gatlinburg Winter Magic Kicks Off Later This Month with Christmas Fun for All Ages
Gatlinburg, Tennessee: Home of never-a-bad-time-to-visit grandeur. We know. We agree.
But while we love all the fall foliage going on right now in the Smoky Mountains, we must admit we have a soft spot for winter travels to Gatlinburg. One of the main reasons? Gatlinburg Winter Magic, which is part of the region's Smoky Mountain Winterfest, kicking off its 30th year of Christmas fun this November 22nd (events run through February 17th, 2020). Events for this year's Gatlinburg Winter Magic include highlights like holiday lights displays, traditional Appalachian music, a multi-day arts and crafts show, and trolley rides. One of our favorite must-do activities is the Winter Smoky Mountains Tunes and Tales in downtown Gatlinburg, running on select dates from November 29th thorugh December 22nd. This interactive storytelling performance features costumed characters, plenty of laughs, and even a cameo from Santa's elves. You can see a full lineup of Gatlinburg Winter Magic events here.
“Gatlinburg has a charm during the holidays that doesn’t exist anywhere else,” said Mark Adams, President/CEO of Gatlinburg Convention and Visitors Bureau in a press release. “Our Fantasy of Lights Parade is a time-honored tradition for generations of families. Match that with the ease of shopping throughout the city and the Trolley Ride of Lights, and it makes for an unforgettable experience.”
If your travels to Gatlinburg have you in town on New Year's Eve, the 32nd annual New Year’s Eve Ball Drop and Fireworks Show is a sight to behold. The countdown to 2020 will include a live DJ, a midnight fireworks show, and a ball drop from the Gatlinburg Space Needle, which clocks in at 400 feet.
