Gary Vaynerchuk tells us how Rickey Henderson helped him master social media on 'Old Baseball Cards'

You might recall during our episode of “Old Baseball Cards” with Gary Vaynerchuk — the social-media titan, best-selling author and digital media CEO — that the very last bit of our interview was Gary asking if we could talk about more baseball cards. And we did just that.

This is our first-ever sequel on “Old Baseball Cards” — our baseball-card driven nostalgia show — and it picks up right where the first left off. Gary Vee and I ripped open some more packs of cards. This time it was 1990 Upper Deck for me, 1988 Fleer for him. We got quite a few interesting cards, but one that stood out was Rickey Henderson, because Vaynerchuk has a great story about seeing Rickey as a kid and how he translated that moment into a business lesson that helps him thrive today.

As he talks about out in our first episode, Vaynerchuk attributes much of his business savvy to selling and trading baseball cards as a kid. Since then, he’s flourished in the wine business and the digital media game. He even has his own shoe these days. So sports have always been a part of his hustle.

If you’re new to our series, we open old packs of baseball cards from ’80s and ’90s with baseball players, coaches and famous fans. It started with cards that my grandma bought when I was kid, hoping they’d make us all rich one day. They didn’t, but now we use them as muses for nostalgia, memories and baseball stories.
