Garth Brooks ‘Declined’ Trisha Yearwood Taking His Last Name
For Garth Brooks, it's not all about the name.
In fact, when his wife, Trisha Yearwood, tried to take his name recently, he went so far as to turn her down.
The country crooner shared the tidbit during a recent press conference in which he introduced a new partnership with TuneIn radio, as reported by Taste of Country.
Someone asked how his wife might be involved with the network—which recently launched his new station, The Big 615—to which he replied, "You're talking to Trisha Yearwood right now," going on to share that she's always top of mind and helping to guide him—even if she's not actually there.
The pair met in 1988, though they were both with other people at the time. It wasn't until 2001 they got together, and the couple were wed four years later, on December 10, 2005.
For their 17th anniversary this past year, Yearwood offered what he called a "sweet" surprise: "She was sweet enough for our anniversary last year to have the documents where her official last name was Brooks." But, he added, "I declined it."
He explained, "Jack Yearwood had two daughters: That Yearwood name is Trisha. I’d be fine changing my name to Yearwood."
Ultimately, he said it's not "tradition" that matters here. "What counts is when you have two celebrities, don’t have one swallow the other."
In fact, he even hopes to get her involved with one of the stations he's planning to launch called "BABE," which he described as "the bad a-- b----es of entertainment."
