As much as many of us hate to admit it, there has probably been a time or two when you carelessly threw away your finished beauty products without properly recycling them. While most of us don’t think twice about it, not recycling these products adds up, contributing to a significant amount of waste, which isn’t good for the environment. Not cool.

One thing that is cool is that mega-hair brand Garnier has joined forces with the largest organization for young people and social change, DoSomething.org, to launch Rinse, Recycle, Repeata national campaign and college competition to educate America’s youth about how important it is to recycle beauty #empties.

To help kick the campaign into full gear, the organizations have tapped lifestyle personality and YouTuber Remi Cruz to further drive social participation. “Rinse, Recycle, Repeat combines my three favorite things: beauty products, creativity, and most importantly, doing my part to help the environment,” Cruz said in a news release.

If America’s youth could put more effort into recycling empty beauty products, they could help keep these items out of landfills and free up more space for gardens to grow in local communities. Who doesn’t want that?

Whether you consider yourself “youthful” or not, this is a national issue that everyone can play a part in fixing. Instead of aimlessly scrolling through Instagram, give back to the environment and get involved by texting the word “RINSE” from your phone to 38383, or visit DoSomething.org.

Let’s all help save the planet — one empty beauty product at a time.
