Gap Expands Partnership With Dapper Dan

Dapper Dan’s new collection with Gap pays homage to his stomping ground, Harlem.

Spanning kids and adult sizes, the 18-piece lineup features graphic logo hoodies with “Harlem” and the Dap logo—a twist on the traditional Gap logo—across the front, and matching logo sweatpants in a houndstooth print. Accessories include tote bags with clutch inserts, baseball hats, socks and a logo ascot—a Dapper Dan style signature.

The Dap Gap collection, which retails for $25-$128, is available in sizes toddler 2T to adult XXXL. Dapper Dan will debut the collection to his Harlem community on Dec. 4 at the Gap 125th Street store, where he will meet fans ahead of the wider drop. On Dec. 5, it will go live on gap.com and will be available at 13 Gap stores nationwide.

A multigenerational cast of Harlem legends and changemakers like Melba Wilson, owner of the iconic Melba’s Restaurant in Harlem and poet Gabriela Lopez Castillo are featured in the collection’s campaign described as “a visual bridge where Harlem and Gap meet.”

Khary Lazarre-White and Jason Warwin, co-founders of The Brotherhood Sister Sol, also star in the campaign. In honor of the collection, Gap made a $100,000 donation to the Harlem-based social justice and youth development nonprofit organization for Black and Latinx youth.

“When Gap came to me, this partnership signified a breakout for the culture,” said Dapper Dan in a statement. “This Dap Gap campaign is my love letter to Harlem, and my way of continuing to propel our culture and community forward. Gap gave us the global presence that allowed us to have the breakout and I can’t wait for the next generation to be a part of this movement.”

Gap’s partnership with Dapper Dan began in 2022 when the style icon starred in the retailer’s spring campaign. As part of the campaign, Dapper Dan launched a limited-edition logo hoodie featuring the words “Dap Gap,” which subsequently sold out.

The same year Gap held a 48-hour auction of NFTs designed in collaboration with the designer. The NFT collection featured both a digital and physical offering, including a one-of-a-kind digital varsity jacket designed by Dapper Dan and a special-edition physical version he signed.
