Gamescom is right around the corner and — besides E3 — it’s arguably the biggest gaming event of the year. Opening Night Live will kick things off August 25th, and the conference will be loaded with more than 70 gaming companies vying for your attention over the next several days.
Xbox, Techland, Ubisoft, Koch Media, Bethesda and EA are among the most exciting attendees — some of which have already revealed a sneak peek of their presentations. From a closer look at Halo Infinite to a reboot of a long-dormant franchise, here are some of the hottest rumors surrounding Gamescom 2021.
Halo Infinite Release Date Will Be Announced
Phil Spencer, executive vice-president of Gaming at Microsoft, has long insisted that Halo Infinite‘s release date is dependent on that of other titles. In other words, Microsoft doesn’t want to launch its highly anticipated game into a market saturated with competition. As of now, Infinite is loosely scheduled for holiday 2021 — although many are hoping Gamescom will bring a firm release date.
That’s not out of the realm of possibility. Microsoft mentioned numerous times that its press conference will focus on titles launching this year — and what better way to steal the show than by dropping new Halo footage and pinning down a launch timeline.
More Forza Horizon 5 Footage Revealed
Sticking with the theme of showcasing games launching this year, Forza Horizon 5 seems like another no-brainer for Xbox. The past few weeks have already revealed a wealth of information about the racing game — including an extended look at its new location in Mexico — but there’s still plenty of gameplay and features yet to be discussed.
Forza Horizon 4 made a big showing back at Gamescom 2018, and it would be great to see the iconic title make a triumphant return three years later.
Back 4 Blood Promotes Its Launch
Recently pushed back to October 12th, fans are itching to get another look at Back 4 Blood following its open beta. The community of beta testers had mostly positive things to say about the game, but now would be a perfect time for WB Games to step forward and announce any planned changes before its launch later this year.
We’re not positive Back 4 Blood will make an appearance during Gamescom, but we can’t imagine a more opportune time to promote a soon-to-be-released title.
Extended Rainbow Six Extraction Footage Revealed
Ubisoft is one of the biggest publishers confirmed to make an appearance during Gamescom 2021. As for what it’ll show during the event, however, no one is entirely certain. Rainbow Six Extraction is arguably its most intriguing title in development, and we haven’t seen too much of it in action — a short gameplay reveal dropped earlier this year, but it left fans yearning for more.
Extraction isn’t slated to launch until 2022, so this rumor might not come to fruition. Still, we’ll hold out hope that the next big installment in the Rainbow Six franchise will get a big showing during Gamescom.
Expect More News About Konami’s eFootball
Konami has officially confirmed more eFootball news will be announced at Gamescom, although it’s anyone’s guess as to what will be revealed. Previously known as PES, eFootball is a massive rebrand of the popular franchise and marks a shift to a free-to-play monetization model.
eFootball doesn’t have a release date beyond “Early Autumn,” so a release date reveal isn’t too far fetched. It’d also be great to see some more gameplay and a renewed look at its development roadmap.
Details Emerge About Dead Space Remake
Last month brought us news of an official Dead Space Remake — although we didn’t see much beyond Isaac Clarke standing in a dimly light hallway. We know EA is planning something for Gamescom 2021, and fans can’t think of anything more exciting than an extended look at the Dead Space Remake.
Sources claim the highly anticipated title will arrive late next year, so don’t expect to get a release date or any real gameplay. Instead, we might see the team behind the remake reveal its plans for the game — and discuss any big changes that it has in store for players.
Elden Ring Gets a Live Demo
Elden Ring technically gave fans their first look at gameplay earlier this year, but it was mostly quick cuts stitched together to create a cinematic reveal. And with its January 21st release date inching ever closer, Gamescom seems like the perfect place to give fans an extended look at its tense combat in action.
Bandai Namco hasn’t revealed its full list of titles showing up during the conference, so there’s hope the elusive Elden Ring will be included in the festivities.
Saints Row Announces Some “Bossing” News
Saints Row will apparently be announcing some form of reboot during Gamescom Opening Night, with host Geoff Keighley tweeting out the news ahead of the event. Keighley shared a mysterious image of a wall littered with graffiti — although the word “Rebooting” is prominently featured in the center.
The official Saints Row Twitter account then replied to the announcement, immediately piquing fans’ interest and giving hope for a big announcement later this week.
Dying Light 2 Shows Off Parkour Gameplay
Techland has confirmed it’ll be showing off Dying Light 2 this week, and it even went so far as to say the showcase will feature parkour gameplay and a look at the factions you’ll find roaming its apocalyptic streets. Fans are hoping to see big improvements to the already robust movement system used in the original Dying Light, and believe a closer look at the factions will reveal more details about its mysterious narrative.
LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Pins Down a Release Date
It feels like LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has been in development for ages — although fans are hopeful Gamescom 2021 will finally offer us a concrete release date. On August 20th, Keighley revealed The Skywalker Saga will be one of the many games receiving a trailer during Opening Night Live. It’s unclear whether the trailer will be gameplay footage or CGI, but either way, let’s hope it ends with more than “Coming Soon.”
