Game of Thrones Stars Emilia Clarke and Sophie Turner Shared Heartfelt Tributes to the Show in Honor of the Finale

“I grew up with you.”

After eight seasons of dragons, drama, and a seemingly never-ending quest to secure the Iron Throne, Game of Thrones has officially concluded. As fans continue to react to Sunday night’s finale, some former Westeros residents have already started sharing tributes to their on-screen characters.

Before the finale got underway, Sophie Turner took to Instagram to share a tearjerking note of appreciation for her character, Sansa Stark. Sharing a photo of the cast, she wrote to Sansa, “Thank you for teaching me resilience, bravery and what true strength really is.” She continued, “Thank you for teaching me to be kind and patient and to lead with love. I grew up with you. I fell in love with you at 13 and now 10 years on.. at 23 I leave you behind, but I will never leave behind what you’ve taught me.”

Her costar, Emilia Clarke shared similar sentiments. Also sharing a photo of the cast, she wrote that she was “overwhelmed” by how much she had to say about the show’s impact. “The mother of dragons chapter has taken up the whole of my adult life,” she wrote. “This woman has taken up the whole of my heart. I’ve sweated in the blaze of dragon fire, shed many tears at those who left our family early, and wrung my brain dry trying to do Khaleesi and the masterful words, actions (and names) I was given, justice. Game of Thrones has shaped me as a woman, as an actor and as a human being.”

Others on the series, including John Bradley (Samwell Tarly), Gwendoline Christie (Brienne of Tarth), Joe Dempsie (Gendry), and Jacob Anderson (Grey Worm), shared their behind-the-scenes images and reflected on the show’s conclusion. Looking back to his first day on the set of the series, John wrote, “Back then we couldn’t have known the journey we’d go on together. I wouldn’t swap that experience, or those people, for the world.”

Although the television journey might be over, it’s definitely clear that the series will live on in the hearts of its cast, crew, and fans.
