Game of Thrones: Expect to See a Lot More of Braavos in Season 7

Over the years, Game of Thrones series regulars have grown incredibly adept at two things: brooding in fur, and refusing to answer any specific questions about upcoming episodes of HBO’s flagship hit. Hell, sometimes they’re even forced to resort to elaborate, years-long deceit to keep the show’s secrets secret.
Game of Thrones guest actors, however, haven’t historically been quite so tight-lipped; look no further than Ian “Tits and Dragons” McShane, who blithely revealed his one-and-done character’s entire arc long before his episode aired without breaking a sweat. And now, Mark Gatiss—a TV vet who should know a thing or two about secret-keeping himself—has joined McShane’s ranks by revealing a little more than a full-time cast member would probably dare.
Accent on the “little.” Gatiss—who has played shrewd Tycho Nestoris, representative of the Iron Bank of Braavos on two previous episodes of Thrones—told press in London over the weekend that he has filmed several more installments of the drama in Belfast: “I’ve done four episodes now and there’s two more they think,” he said, according to Express UK. Gatiss stopped short, however, of saying anything truly revelatory: “The last scene I’m in with—I probably can’t say because it would be a spoiler, wouldn’t it?” He finished by repeating an anecdote he first told in 2015, after Tycho’s second episode: “I made a pitch to be the last one alive, because if anyone survives, it’s the banker, isn’t it?”

Thin as this information may be, true Thrones detectives can likely glean a few nuggets of information from it nonetheless. More Tycho means that the Iron Bank of Braavos, an inordinately powerful financial institution, will likely play a greater role in the show’s final seasons, probably as the various factions dueling for control of Westeros—Cersei, Daenerys, Ellaria Sand, Ser Pounce?!—seek funding via its vast reserves. (Previously, the bank backed Stannis Baratheon; we all know how that turned out.) We know, too, that the Lannisters have long been in debt to the Iron Bank, especially now that their ancestral gold mines have run dry—and it may be time for Tycho and co. to collect on Cersei.
Will the season bring more characters to the Free City of Braavos—or will Tycho go boldly into Westeros itself? Only three more months before we learn more—unless Gatiss cracks again.
