The ‘Game of Thrones’ Cast Was Booed at Comic-Con, and There’s a Video of It
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister) and the rest of the Game of Thrones cast stopped by Comic-Con to talk about that controversial series ending—and they defended it.
GoT fans were not so happy with that.
If you’re in the Game of Thrones cast and you spent even ~10 seconds glancing at the internet post-finale, you’d have to have guts to face your fan base in defense of the show, because the fan reaction was a total dumpster fire. But thankfully, this cast is gutsy AF, so off to Comic-Con they went on Saturday, ready and willing to stand behind the controversial choices of their showrunners.
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who played Jaime Lannister, didn’t hold back any punches, even outright defending the way his character (SPOILER!) died in Cersei’s (Lena Headey) arms instead of with Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie). Once the audience heard that, the panel took a slightly nastier turn.
“It made sense to me,” he told the unimpressed crowd, adding that he felt it was “great” and “perfect for that character’s ending.”
And that’s when a fan promptly booed him while another shouted “BRIENNE” as loudly as possible. The whole thing was captured on video, because it was Comic-Con and of course it was:

The crowd’s reaction didn’t bother the cast much though. After laughing it off, Nikolaj expanded on his feelings, even directly addressing that online petition asking for a remake.
“It was surprising, the level of absurdity of the online petition. Every season, we had huge controversies. From Ned Stark being killed, ‘I’m never going to watch that piece of shit show again!’ And then there was the Red Wedding. And obviously, the end. I feel so lucky to have met so many fans of the show and to realize this show has brought so many people together. Watching it, loving it. So obviously, it comes to an end, it’s going to piss you off no matter what. It’s the end! But at the end of the day, it’s absolutely fine. If you hated the ending, if you loved it, that’s great. Just don’t call people names.”
You heard the man: Save the name calling and booing for home.
