Gabrielle Union’s Daughter Kaavia Recreated Her Mom’s Prom Look & There’s No Question Who Wore It Better

Complex blessed the internet yesterday when they shared a carousel of A-list celebrities at their proms. There was Beyoncé in a gorgeous white gown with colorful spirals and cutouts, Alicia Keys in a red paisley number, Snoop Dogg staring down the photographer, and Magic Johnson in a statement white tuxedo (everyone around him and his date was dressed so casually…?!).

And then there was Gabrielle Union. Dressed in a black gown with ruffly white off-the-shoulder sleeves. The actress perfectly accessorized with a string of pearls, dangly pearl earrings, and black gloves (!!!).

Union reshared the photo on her Instagram story alongside a picture of her daughter Kaavia James recreating the look when she was younger. Little Kaavia is wearing a black dress with even poofier white off-the-shoulder sleeves and dangly gold earrings that also have some pearls. While Union is grinning ear-to-ear, Kaavia is looking straight-faced at the camera, reminding us of why she is affectionately known as Shady Baby.

“[She] definitely wore it better,” Union wrote under the side-by-side photo that can be seen HERE.

Kaavia Always Thrives In Dresses

Just last week, Kaavia proved that she can do even more in a dress than just outshine her mama. In a video on Instagram, she and her dad Dwyane Wade were doing flips on the couch. He may be an NBA Hall-of-Famer, but his daughter has him beat at this physical feat. She did more reps than him, with more heart, and all in a princess dress.

“Both are impressive 👏🏾 but Kaav in the full formal wear vs Dad in leisure attire. Bravo!!!” one follower commented.

Not The Only Fashionista

Kaavia must also get some of her fashion sense from her big sister Zaya Wade, 16 — who Dwyane shares with ex-wife Siovaughn Funches along with son Zaire, 21. He also shares 10-year-old Xaviar with ex Aja Metoyer. He also has full custody of his nephew, Dahveon, 21.

Last year, Zaya made her runway debut at Paris Fashion Week (Yes! That was her intro to runways!) and moved her dad and stepmom to tears.

“I’m not crying, you are,” Wade said in an Instagram story that showed a clip of Zaya’s walk in the Miu Miu show.

Soon after conquering PFW, Zaya spoke with Dazed about the invaluable beauty lessons she’s learned from Union.

“It’s about being you and expressing yourself the way you want to,” Zaya said. “She tries to teach me that beauty standards are arbitrary and that they don’t mean anything. They don’t matter anymore; what people thought was the standard is not. And just that being myself is the best technique out there.”
