Last year alone, I went to five Harry Styles concerts (including Coachella, aka Harrychella). From the intricate sets to every whimsical tour outfit put together by Harry’s fashion stylist Harry Lambert, the live performances are an affair to remember. As a self-proclaimed certified sneaker girl, I couldn’t help but notice there’s a specific comfy footwear that the “Keep Driving” singer uses to gallop across the stage and rally the crowd like a ringleader, a pair of Adidas Gazelles—and I’m not the only one who noticed.
While there are tons of different options Harry could have opted for, his affinity for Adidas as a brand has been made very clear through his day-off sightings walking around town, his post-concert Instagram photos with the three stripes in clear view, and apparently even onstage for his Love On Tour performances wearing the Gazelles. Naturally, it didn’t take much for Harries everywhere to dub that specific sneaker style the Satellite Stomper, in reference to the stomp-like dance he does like clockwork at every one of his concerts while performing his song “Satellite.” Need a visual of his signature move in real time? Since then, many have been influenced by Mr. Harry Styles and have purchased the sneakers popularized by the Grammy winner and other fashionable celebs (shout-out to Phoebe Dynevor and Kendall Jenner). Although the iconic Adidas Gazelles aren’t exactly new to the scene and in fact debuted in the ’60s, the style has, for the most part, been overlooked in recent history, with trendsetters over the past few years opting for models like Sambas instead. But because Harries make up most of the population in today’s world—at least, that’s what seems to be the case anyway—you’ve probably noticed an uptick in TikToks coming up on your FYP of the fashion girlies unboxing Adidas Gazelles, leading it to be the hottest shoe on the market atm.
So if the suede sneaker seemingly came out of nowhere and into your purview as of late, I’m crediting our man Harry Styles for taking a part in the resurgence of the fashion trend. Of course, he’s certainly not the only person to wear them recently—in fact, Jacob Elordi, Austin Butler, and Brad Pitt have all sported the fresh kicks. The way the laid-back, cool sneaks have taken off and gone on to live a life of their own is anything but a surprise. After all, they come in a variety of colors, have a soft appearance, and are easy to put on your OOTD rotation to wear with dresses, pants, or shorts.
