FX debuted a brand new teaser for its upcoming historical drama, Shōgun.

The two-minute visual transports audiences back to feudal Japan in the year 1600, just as the country is preparing for a civil war that will determine its next century. Tensions are running high as Lord Yoshii Toranaga — who is based on Tokugawa Ieyasu, the first shōgun and founder of the Tokugawa Shogunate — gathers his troops and allies, including samurai Lady Mariko, to take on the Council of Regents. In the midst of this power struggle, however, a European shipwreck is found in a nearby fishing village carrying several men, of whom is English pilot and navigator John Blackthorne. He fights for Lord Toranaga in the hopes of getting released and sailing back home to England, but experiences a war like no other.

Shōgun is based on James Clavell's historical fiction novel of the same name, which is loosely based on navigator William Adams, who was the first Englishman to reach Japanese shores, during the immediate time period before Battle of Sekigahara.

Leading the main cast is veteran actor Hiroyuki Sanada, who portrays Lord Toranaga, along with Persuasion star Cosmo Jarvis as John Blackthorne. Also joining the show are Anna Sawai, Tadanobu Asano, Fumi Nikaido, Tokuma Nishioka, Takehiro Hira and more.
