From Best Products

The range-topping D7 Botvac offers best-in-class, laser-guided mapping and navigation tech that sets it apart from all of its competitors. Believe it or not, it’s similar to technology that is used in self-driving cars.

If you have a large floor plan or just want a robot vacuum that won't get stuck mid-cleaning cycle, this one is one of the best ones out there.

Agility and Navigation

The Roomba 960, i7, and s9+ robot vacuums have a top-mounted camera that takes visual clues from the environment to help them find their way around, while the D7 uses invisible lasers at ground level to systematically clean spaces and navigate. The laser tech also allows the vacuum to easily avoid obstacles and clean in the dark.

Its D-shaped design helps it clean corners easily, as well. The D7 has a little more oomph at getting over tricky thresholds, which can be problematic for some robot vacuums. We appreciate that it was quieter than the self-emptying Roomba s9+, too.

The D7 offers an impressive 2-hour runtime and it's one of the few robot vacuums that's capable of storing multiple floor plans. This means you can finish cleaning one story, then carry it upstairs to clean the second floor of your home.

Suction Strength and Cleaning Performance

As far as cleaning performance goes, the D7 is one of the most powerful robot vacuums money can buy. Thanks to cutting-edge tech and top-notch performance, the Botvac D7 has earned high praise from Wired and TechRadar.

The only vac which surpasses its power is the new Roomba s9, which costs twice as much if you purchase the model with the self-emptying base. This one offers a turbo mode that helps it suck up dirt deep within every crevice or between every carpet fiber.

We found that it performs better than Roomba vacuums on hard floors for clearing messes, since Roomba vacuums typically push debris around slightly more. So, if you have a child who is constantly throwing cereal, it’ll suck everything up without requiring you to lift a finger.

Ease of Use

We didn't find the Neato app to be as intuitively designed as the iRobot app, however, it still is easy enough to use.

The vacuum supports voice commands by Alexa or the Google Assistant, too. That way you can tell an Alexa speaker to start your vacuum while you're busy doing something else. We were surprised to see that you can even install apps on your smartwatch to control the D7 or begin cleanings.

One of our favorite features on the smartphone app is its “Virtual No-Go Lines” feature, in which you can view your floor plan and draw multiple boundary lines of places you don’t want the robot to go. Every house has problem areas, so the feature will definitely come in handy. As for us, several robot vacuums we tested consistently got stuck on a rubber mat that was below our elevated dog bowls. This feature resolved this problem entirely.

The D7 also has a zone-cleaning feature where you can tell the vacuum to clean specific rooms or areas of your house. So, if you only want it to clean the kitchen before guests arrive for dinner, you can instruct the vacuum to do so without having it clean your entire floor plan.

Wrap-Up

If you’re looking for a wicked-good robot vacuum with superior suction, outstanding navigation tech, and a convenient app, the Neato Botvac D7 is worth your consideration.
