Furry Friends Friday: Cole, Pepper and Drake are three dogs in need of love, a good home

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Dante’s Hope brought in three dogs, ranging in size from small to large, and they all need a loving forever home.

Cole is the smallest one, Drake is the black dog, and Pepper is black and white. Each has a different background story that led Dante’s Hope to take the dogs in.

Cole came from a hoarding case. He’s 9 weeks old and is a schnoodle mix. His adoption fee is $400, including all shots and microchipping.

Pepper is a full-grown poodle mix. She’s about 2 years old. She was surrendered by her owner, and she’s eagerly awaiting her chance to be loved again by a new family. Pepper’s adoption fee is $350 since she’s older than six months.

Drake is four months old. He was found in a box as a baby, and a foster family has been taking care of him. He’s a Labrador/Catahoula mix. His adoption fee is also $400 since he’s a puppy.

Allison Barrilleaux also discussed the importance of giving dogs a chance to warm up to you. Some animals may have been abandoned or surrendered by previous owners, or they may have come from worse situations. Give the dog a chance to get acclimated to you. Pets that humans previously mistreated might have a harder time trusting their new owners.

Sometimes, a dog may not have had any issues with a previous owner. They may just wonder why they were given away and have to find a new family.

Barrilleaux said black dogs are adopted less than dogs who may have white fur, beige fur, etc. She says those dogs are just as deserving of a loving home as those with lighter fur.

If you’re not interested in any of these options, then check out their other cuties who are waiting for a loving family to bring them home.

Dante’s Hope has adoption events every Saturday at the PetSmart on Siegen Lane from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

If you would love to adopt, but are unable to at this time, consider fostering an animal. If that’s also not an option, consider making a donation to the Barking Hope Pet Pantry. Monetary donations, pet supplies, treats, toys and food are all welcomed.
