Fundraiser For Fallen Colorado Skier's Family Eclipses $40k

In extremely sad news, a young skier named Dallas Lebeau passed on April 9th, 2024, in the afternoon, after attempting to gap the Highway 40 near Mile Post 241.5.

Read the Grand County Sheriff's Office of Colorado's report to Facebook below.

The Grand County Sheriff's Office reported that "at approximately 3 p.m., the Grand County Communications Center received a 911 call reporting a skiing accident on Highway 40 near Mile Post 241.5 (just west of the Berthoud Pass Summit). It was reported that a 21-year-old male was unconscious and not breathing and that bystander CPR had been initiated."

"Emergency responders arrived on scene and determined that the male subject was deceased and the Grand County Coroner’s Office was notified to respond to the scene."

The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was attempting to air over the width of Highway 40 and unfortunately lacked the necessary speed and distance and subsequently landed on the highway pavement.

The Sheriff's Office reported that the victim had been wearing a helmet and other protective gear.

Dallas's friend Devin set up a GoFundMe for Dallas, and the fundraiser has already raised $42,565.

Dallas explained that "Dallas was a close friend of mine since before preschool. He was one of the most joyful and kind people you could ever meet. He was always raising good spirits and loved to ski ever since he was 2. I wanted to start this GoFundMe to help the family of Dallas Lebeau with the costs of the funeral and the financial expenses that may come their way. And give them one less thing to stress about."

Even more touchingly, donors left messages about Dallas with their donation.

Although all of the messages were moving, noting Dallas' skiing abilities, kindness, and funny, laid-back attitude, one comment in particular struck us.

Jaxon Holme wrote, "Dallas has been my best friend since we met on the first day of comp center. We have shared highs and lows and everything in between. I will miss his eagerness to do the things he loved and his dedication to everyone in his life. Forever my best friend."

Our thoughts, again, go out to everyone affected by Dallas' passing at this time. Clearly, there were a lot of people impacted by him during his life, and he will be survived by all of those who love him.
