This Fun DIY Project From Annie Sloan Will Give Your Floors a New Lease on Life

Geometric painted floor tiles, an instantaneous way to jazz up a drab room."These floor tiles were dull and characterless when we got them," says Sloan, the founder of Chalk Paint. "The idea of using charming, soft pink Chalk Paint in Antoinette with rambunctious, zesty Barcelona Orange to paint those circle shapes was born of a desire to simply paint something happy. The round shapes are like smiley faces and they give the tiles a whole new lease of life." And whether you opt for a brave color palette like this one or go for something neutral-toned, it's a fun and easy way to embolden a space and liven up some floor tiles that could use a little more punch.
What you'll need...
Large sponge paint rollers
A round plate or two (must be smaller than the tiles, so a mug could also work)
Two different paint colors (Annie Sloan used Antoinette and Barcelona)
A piece of construction paper or an index card
How to do it...
Step One: Paint half of the total number of tiles using one color and then do the opposite for the other half of the tiles. Apply two coats of paint to each for even, full coverage.
Step Two: Create your own circle template by drawing around a small plate and then cut out around the shape. Position two tiles of the same color next to each other and place your circular template in the middle of both tiles.
Step Three: Use your large sponge roller to apply the opposite color of paint to the area around your template. Repeat this step with the alternate colored tiles.
Step Four: Finish with a high gloss lacquer to protect your tiles and also give them a nice sheen (unless you choose a matte option).
Step Five: Once dry, you can play with the arrangement as you see fit for fun, exuberant flooring.
