Fumito Ganryu Men’s Spring 2022

Unconventional fabrics, versatile silhouettes and built-in functionalities were just some of the ways Fumito Ganryu explored the theme for his latest collection: “compatibility.” He said he wanted to create a uniform that can be worn at home, when going out and even for some sporting activities.

Ganryu used a quick-drying fabric normally reserved for swim shirts to create not only T-shirts and leggings, but also beautifully draped coats. For hooded, shawl-collar raincoats fastened with a tie belt, he chose a waterproof textile intended for umbrellas.

“The design of the raincoat is similar to a robe, which gives it an elegance; it’s a design that can be worn even when it’s not raining. It is actually based on a military coat, and the reflector accents are both functional and a design element,” Ganryu said.

Other key pieces included an out-sized hooded sweatshirt with zippers under the arms that, when opened, allow to it be worn as a poncho, and a button-up shirt with windbreaker sleeves in geometric colorblocking. Ganryu also unveiled his first collaboration with Dickies, which included drop-crotch pants and a motorcycle jacket in the brand’s signature workwear fabric. When the collection hits stores, the collaboration pieces will only be available to customers in Japan.
