For seven years, Good Morning America viewers watched the always-cheerful Sam Champion deliver the latest weather forecast. Then, much to the dismay of GMA fans, Sam departed in 2013 for a managing editor gig at The Weather Channel.

While GMA viewers have since grown to love weather anchor and ABC News Chief Meteorologist Ginger Zee, occasionally Sam will grace fans with his presence on the show. Naturally, his appearances here and there have made folks wonder if Sam is planning on returning to the morning program for good.

Is Sam Champion coming back to ABC and GMA?

In late May, ABC announced that Sam would be returning to ABC7's Eyewitness News in New York to do the weekday morning and noon weather reports.

"I am so proud and happy to say I will see you on @ABC7NY #MondayAM #eyewitnessnewsthismorning you for all your kindness and support in this super fast move back to #NYC!" he tweeted back on June 1, two days before his official start date.

Obviously, Sam's fans and loyal reviews found the news to be extremely exciting.

"You being back at 7 brings a piece of my childhood back. All is right in the world :). But in all seriousness, congrats!" one fan tweeted. "I’ve been ANXIOUSLY awaiting your return!!! You are the BEST!!" another said.

As far as GMA is concerned, Sam is also expected to continue popping up on Good Morning America on a fill-in basis for Ginger. So it's nice to know that we can have the best of both worlds by watching our two favorite meteorologists back to back.
