This week, the music industry lost an icon: Legendary musician Tina Turner passed away at 83 years-old after a reported "long-term illness." While we'll always remember Turner's chart-topping hits—which, by the way, were simply the best—it turns out that she had a pretty fabulous real-estate portfolio, too. Turner might've been born and raised in Brownsville, Tennessee; but, her career really took off when she went to St. Louis, where she met former husband and singing partner, Ike Turner.

As her star grew bigger, and she left her domineering husband behind, Turner amassed properties throughout Europe. In fact, she renounced her American citizenship to live full-time in Europe in 2013. "I have left America because my success was in another country and my boyfriend [Erwin Bach] was in another country," Turner said in an interview with Larry King. Best of all, her properties were reportedly designed to the nines with her Euro maximalist flair. (Stained glass? A sunken amphitheater? Lots of artwork? Check, check, and check.)

To honor Turner, we're pressing play on the "Proud Mary" singer's real-estate portfolio.

Brownsville, Tennessee

The industry icon—originally known as Anna Mae Bullock—was born in Brownsville, Tennessee on November 26, 1939. Though the songstress might've moved on from her small town roots, Brownsville retains a lot of pride for Turner. The town even reworked her former childhood school into the world's only Tina Turner museum. "I hope as people walk through the school they see I set an example as a hometown girl who grew up in hard times that made a good life for herself, ” Turner said.

In 1955, Turner moved to St. Louis to join her mom and sister in the Mound City. (Later, she would meet Ike Turner and develop their popular singing duo.)

London, England

Turner had a brief stint in London, residing in a flat in the neighborhood's Notting Hill neighborhood. (Legend has it, her former digs boasted a statement-making stained glass window and a spa-like bathroom, complete with gilded touches and a soaking tub.)

Nice, France

Turner also had a majestic mansion perched on the hills of Nice, France. According to a home tour, which was featured on Architectural Digest, the property was an amalgamation of all her favorite things: Neutral tones, Greek and Roman influences, musical memorabilia, and lots of gorgeous furniture.

"When I see something I love—a suite of furniture, a piece of art—I never measure, I never hesitate, I just buy it," Turner told the publication. "Eventually I'll find a place for it. I have strong tastes—and big storerooms. I've always wanted and needed to transform my surroundings."

Kusnacht, Switzerland

Perhaps Tina's most beloved and iconic property was Villa Algonquin in Kusnacht, Switzerland. Turner reportedly moved into the mega-mansion in 1998 with Bach, then eventually purchased the property in 2013 for a whopping $76 million.

Clocking in at 59,427 square feet, the mansion was just as opulent as you'd expect. (Highlights reportedly include a room filled with gilded Louis XIV sofas as well as a a life-size two-legged horse sculpture.) But, by all accounts, the megawatt star lived a relatively normal life in Switzerland.

Though Turner listed the mansion in 2020, one of the terms of the sale was that she and Bach could remain on the premises as renters. It is reported that Turner passed away in her Kusnacht abode—and many fans have since visited the property's gate to pay their respects to an artist who was better than all the rest.
