According to The Guardian, the Promising Young Woman star first met her husband at a Christian holiday camp, when she was just 12 years old. Mumford told GQ, “There’s a photo of us that first summer we met, and I’ve got bleached blond hair.”

Several years later, the duo reunited in Nashville, Tennessee while attending a Mumford & Sons show. She sat in the front row, and while he was singing, Marcus looked down at Carey, and she blushed. It was clear they had chemistry.”

Just a few days later, the pair attended an Arcade Fire show in New York. Per Us Weekly, a source said, "They were whispering to each other and enjoying the show. They definitely seemed like a couple."

Meanwhile, another insider confirmed to People that the two showed PDA at another Mumford's concert at St. Magnus Cathedral in the U.K. The concertgoer said, "[They] were kissing and cuddling in public. They were clearly very fond of each other."

The couple got married on a farm in Somerset, England, which was attended by roughly 200 guests. Quite a few A-list friends, like Sienna Miller, Jake Gyllenhaal and Colin Firth, were in attendance, and the ceremony was officiated by Mumford’s father, who leads an evangelical branch of the Christian church.

Mulligan told The Telegraph, "Love letters are becoming a lost art form, which is very sad. To have a love letter from someone, to hold it in your hand and know you can keep it for your whole life, that's an amazing thing."

August 2022: Mumford Gets Candid About Marriage

In his interview with GQ, the Mumford & Sons frontman got candid about his upbringing and his marriage. He explained, “I don’t think it’s like, you reach a destination and then you celebrate. I was brought up in a fairly conservative Christian home, and in that culture—and I hope you don’t hear me blaming anything or anyone for this, because I really am not—but in that culture, marriage is seen as the destination that you’re aiming for.”

He continued, “If you can get there—if you can basically spend your teenage years not wanking too much and your 20s not f***ing too much—you get to marriage and everything will be cool. And that’s just totally not my experience. The reason I think people don’t stay married is because they don’t realize how much work it takes.”

October 2022: The Oscar Bet

On The Late Late Show with James Corden, Mumford talked about how he and wife made a tattoo bet that involves her film, Promising Young Woman.

He said, “When we were in lockdown, she was supposed to have a film come out, after the awards were over, because it was not supposed to be an awards film, called Promising Young Woman. And it is brilliant. [We had] no expectations for it to be an awards conversation, but Covid comes, it gets pushed back and comes out around all the awards films and suddenly there is all this chat about it. And it became this anxiety in our household because now, there is pressure to get nominated, where there wasn't before."

"So I said, ‘Let's make it fun, let's have a tattoo bet. If it doesn't get nominated you have to be branded with your failure for the rest of your life. You get an Oscar tattoo,’” Mumford added.

Fortunately for Mulligan, the film did get nominated, and Mumford wound up getting the tattoo anyway.
