“Frozen” Creators on the Possibility of “Frozen 3”

We're just not ready to “let it go!"

Frozen 2 may have just hit theaters, but that hasn’t stopped fans from wondering if we’ll see even more of our favorite icy crew in the future. We can’t really blame ‘em; after all, we waited six whole years for the sequel!

Jennifer Lee, who wrote and directed both Frozen and Frozen 2, officially cleared up whether or not a Frozen 3 happening — well, sort of. "For me [finishing Frozen 2] felt final,” Lee (sadly) told Yahoo! Movies UK. "But we always say 'never say never.' I think what made this one special is that we'd both confessed that we didn’t want to leave this world. We naively just went into this because we love [the characters] and we could see more story."

Lee's co-director Chris Buck echoed her sentiments in a September interview with INSIDER, also expressing a “never say never” mentality regarding another Frozen film. "I mean, nothing ever closes the door,” Buck said. "But for us that's what got us figuring out what the story [of Frozen 2] would be a few years ago. ‘What if we could tell one complete story?’ A lot of things in Frozen 2 answer some of the questions in Frozen, or questions you didn't know about."

Even though that doesn’t give the clearest answer, it does sound like Frozen 2 will give audiences plenty of closure, even if we can't get enough of Elsa, Anna, Kristoff, and Olaf. But that doesn’t mean it will be easy to say goodbye — for the fans or the cast.

Idina Menzel, the voice behind Queen Elsa, got sentimental about the possibility that this could be her last time in Arendelle. “You’re going to make me cry,” Menzel said to Yahoo!. But, she added, “It feels good to complete something and accomplish this project with them, and also knowing that we won’t see each other for a little while, so there’s definitely that.”

However, the actor isn’t sure she’s prepared to move on from Frozen altogether: “But the finality of it, I haven’t dealt with yet.”

Josh Gad, the voice of lovable snowman Olaf, will cherish his time portraying the goofy character no matter what happens in the future. “If I don’t ever play Olaf again,” he said during his Yahoo! interview, “it will end up being one of the great parts of my life and one of the greatest joys and thrills to be able to have created a character that’s connected with so many people.”

We can’t argue with that. But a little Frozen 3 wouldn’t hurt anybody, either. For now, we’ll just be rushing out to see the newest movie and be happy with what we have.
