French Freerider Shows The Effort Required To Build Photogenic Jump Line
There is a great deal of unseen work that goes into a bike video. Perfectly manicured jumps don't just appear out of nowhere!
French freerider William Robert showed the effort that goes into building trails with a behind-the-scenes look at building the features for his forthcoming edit Dawn to Dusk. See the build process in a video below.
In this video, Robert and his dig team build the enormous jump line through rain, mud, and sunshine. Like an action movie crew, each builder has a skill they bring to the table. Ken helped William dig at Rampage and Théo is the brain and is an encyclopedia of mountain biking.
The crew also called on the Kaaki brothers who built a large jump line in their backyard for expertise.
When they aren’t crashing Surrons or demonstrating the need for OSHA by twirling one another in the excavator bucket while holding a chainsaw, they make an effective team.
This jump line looks amazing. It is safe to assume that the edit Robert releases will be dynamite also.
Building trails like these is not something that they do just for fun. Projects like these require intense funding, generally from the company sponsoring the video. Sometimes these projects are one-offs and the builders have to destroy their beautiful work after filming rather than leave dangerous features in a field somewhere and invite lawsuits.
Someone who has had great insight on this subject is Kyle Jameson. The freerider has made a career building trails for film segments. As far as trail building careers go, making big jumps rather than blue flow trails is a dream for any freerider.
