The Freeride World Tour Announces New Venue Location

Today, October 12th, the Freeride World Tour -- skiing's most notable freeride competition series -- released its 2024 calendar. Among the dates listed was the location of a new venue the resort has been teasing this past month.

Now, it's official -- the FWT is headed to Georgia in March of 2024. And no, we're not talking about the Georgia in the United States, as funny as that would be.

Last season, the FWT had five events. With the addition of a Georgian venue, this total increases to six for 2024, affording athletes an additional chance to score points before the "cut" -- the last two events during the FWT season only feature a portion of the riders, functioning as a finals series.

The FWT described the freeride potential of Georgia as follows in an October 12th press release:

"Nestled at the intersection of Europe and Asia, Georgia will host the last stop before the cut, and the ultimate chance for riders to qualify for the FWT Finals. Georgia boasts a rich tapestry of traditions and a culture renowned for its hospitality, as well as the imposing Caucasus Mountains, which contain multiple peaks over 5,000 meters. The country has successfully hosted FWT Qualifier events during the last two seasons, demanding the attention of the international ski community. Both Tetnuldi and Mestia have emerged as prominent freeride destinations, offering vast big mountain terrain that enjoys copious amounts of snowfall over the winter months."

The FWT hasn't yet announced which Georgian ski resort will host the competition this season, so stay tuned for further updates.
