Free summer cohesion for kids of Chemung County veterans

CHEMUNG COUNTY, N.Y. (WETM) — Some Chemung County veterans will get to send their kids to Summer Cohesion for free this year.

According to the Chemung County Executive’s Office, the county is collaborating with the Chemung County Youth Bureau to provide Summer Cohesion scholarships to children of eligible veterans who live in Chemung County. Summer Cohesion is a six-week-long summer drop-off program for kids aged four to 12. This program allows kids to spend weekdays doing safe and fun recreational and educational activities. Summer Cohesion is held at various locations throughout Chemung County.

Veterans who would like their children to participate in this program will need to visit the Chemung County Department of Veterans Affairs to provide proof of service and residency. Veterans will receive an award letter with a registration link and scholarship code after the requirements are verified.

The Department of Veterans Affairs is located in Room 303 of the Human Resources Building, which is located at 425 Pennsylvania Ave. in Elmira, and is open from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
