Free Mother’s Day birdwatching, wildflower festival at Silver Falls State Park

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Silver Falls State Park is hosting a free Mother’s Day birding and wildflower festival on May 11 and 12.

Oregon State Parks announced that the two-day event will include guided birdwatching tours, wildflower walks, wildflower shows, crafting tables, live presentations on birds of prey and a native plant sale. The educational hikes start every hour and range from a half-mile to 2.6 miles long. All activities will be held in the park’s South Falls day-use area.

“May is a glorious time to enjoy nature at Silver Falls,” OSP Ranger Matt Palmquist was quoted saying in a press release. “Visitors might see or hear many species of newly arrived migratory birds such as warblers and rufous hummingbirds as well as enjoy dozens of species of wildflowers from pale pink bleeding hearts to vibrant blue delphiniums.”
