Free DC Comics Films And TV Shows Are Coming To Tubi

Tubi, the free video on demand streaming service that I had definitely heard of before today, has announced that it’s bringing a bunch of new DC Comics film and TV content to its service, some of which are coming before the end of the year.

In a press release this week, Tubi announced it had signed a content deal with Warner Bros. Discovery to add 10 WB-branded “Fast channels,” and I know what those are because I use Tubi, the service I had heard of previously. The deal is set to see big blockbuster DC films, like The Batman (the best Batman film), Black Adam, Aquaman, and Wonder Woman added to the service.

TV series are getting the spotlight too, with shows like Batwoman, Gotham, and Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman joining in. On that note, does DC actually have any TV series going right now? Titans has ended and the Arrowverse has wrapped up, but I guess Peacemaker is a thing, and Colin Farrell’s Penguin series is coming sometime next year.

In any case, the press release featured comment from chief content officer of Tubi, Adam Lewinson, who said that this is a huge value add for Tubi, which offers free content for viewers at the cost of some ads — but apparently fewer than traditional TV.

“The addition of recent blockbuster movies and fan-favorite series from the DC library is a monumental offering for Tubi viewers,” Lewinson said, “We’re so pleased to have such wonderful partners at Warner Bros. Discovery who are expanding the reach of their superhero franchise films and series that are destined to draw new audiences and fandoms with Tubi’s highly engaged viewers.”

No matter how you look at it, WB’s content being available on more services, especially easily accessible and free services like Tubi, is very much a good thing. Especially when oopsies happen, like earlier this week when HBO’s Watchmen series briefly disappeared from Max due to a glitch. If Watchmen had been on Tubi, viewers could have just made the hop over to that until it was fixed.
