The Saved by the Bell reboot is getting backlash for making a series of “jokes” about Selena Gomez’s kidney transplant.
Actress Francia Raísa—who donated her kidney to Selena—has responded to the show’s apology.
The Saved by the Bell reboot has come under fire from Selena Gomez fans (and, honestly, just the internet in general) due to a tasteless joke about Selena’s kidney transplant. During a recent episode, several characters debate about who Selena’s kidney donor was, and the sentence “Does Selena Gomez even have a kidney?” is seen on a wall.
While Selena hasn’t commented on the episode, actress Francia Raísa—who was Selena’s kidney donor—did respond to the show’s recent apology.
She tweeted, “Appreciate the apology but let’s not forget about the donors that potentially felt offended and dismissed from the spray paint written on the wall.”

Her tweet came as Saved by the Bell gave an apologetic statement to Today, saying they will make a donation to Selena’s charity: “We apologize. It was never our intention to make light of Selena’s health. We have been in touch with her team and will be making a donation to her charity, The Selena Gomez Fund for Lupus Research at USC.”
Sending love to Selena and Francia.
