Fran Lebowitz Doesn't Feel Sorry For People Who Get Injured In "Horrible Skiing Accidents"

There's a common phrase I like to say to my friends that are leaning how to ski,. "Skiing is for everybody, but not everybody is for skiing." Apparently, author Fran Lebowitz isn't for skiing.

The clip below, which appears to come from a recent interview, shows Lebowitz explaining why she doesn't like skiing, and why she doesn't feel bad for skiers that are injured in "horrible skiing accidents".

Thanks to Out of Collective for publishing this clip to Instagram:

Don't worry, friends. Lebowitz is being facetious (at least I hope so).

She's simply making the point that skiing is dangerous. No kidding, Franny!

Whether she's serious or not about her lack of care for skier's well-being, she brings up a halfway decent point against our beloved sport- Why is it that we allow ourselves to be strapped to two planks made of wood, metal, and plastic and hurl ourselves down the mountain?

I can't begin to fathom what's wrong (or right) with our brains, but I do know one thing- we ski because it's the best dang feeling in the entire world.

I'm all ears if Lebowitz has a safer alternative to fly down a mountain in the middle of January, but until then, I'm going to keep risking life and limb on my skis in the endless pursuit of making more turns on snow.

The intellectuals can keep their books, poems, coffee shops and whatever other mundane methods of "fun" they participate in. We'll keep skiing and we won't feel sorry when one of them gets "horribly injured" in a paper cut accident.

Deal?
