Fran Drescher is well-known for her big heart, so it’s no surprise she secretly renovated her housekeepers’ home to show how immensely grateful she is to have them in her life. The Nanny star and fashion icon worked with design duo Drew and Jonathan Scott to do so—and it may be the craziest renovation in HGTV’s Celebrity IOU history. The project had a one-month turnaround, and it involved repairing extensive termite damage.

“There's your biological family, and then there’s your logical family,” Drescher said of her housekeepers Ramon and Angelica during the latest episode of the show. “And I think they’re my logical family. We totally can share each other’s woes, hardships, and joys.”

For 30 years now, Ramon and Angelica have helped Drescher with everything from her marketing and food preparation to gardening and handiwork around her house. The couple’s own home is a 1920s craftsman located in Hollywood, California. Stripped of its original character by previous owners, the home needed functional and style updates. “It all feels like it’s blah,” Jonathan said of the drab furnishings and color palette in the living and dining areas.

With a super-tight, one-month timeline, the project quickly turned into an even larger undertaking. Drescher and the Scott brothers discovered unsafe structural issues in the roof, walls, and floor thanks to termite damage, a complete lack of insulation, and poor handyman work that basically involved covering damaged wood with new wood in the ceiling. “This is what we call, in my dad’s house, a real home job,” Drescher said during the discovery. “My dad, if he has masking tape and a hammer, we can fix anything in the Drescher home.”

As they kept finding damage, Drescher added, “I’m sick over this. I wanted to do a nice thing, and this is becoming like a nightmare!”

Luckily, the Scott brothers called in a big team to help finish the demo and rebuild the structure. They were able to make everything safe and secure without delay. In the living and dining areas, a fresh white-and-cream color palette brightens up the interiors. Classic trim and crown moldings enhance the home’s character. The kitchen is now outfitted with custom cabinetry and a blue-and-white patterned tile backsplash, which is a nod to the family’s Mexican heritage. The couple was completely overjoyed when they saw the transformation, and Drescher was ecstatic. "I'm just over the moon that I’m able to give Ramon and Angelica this gift," she said.
