The Fox and the Crow to close after 9 years in Fort Collins

After nearly a decade in Fort Collins — and 18 months under new ownership — The Fox and the Crow cheese and meat shop will close at the end of the year, owner Kerry Krekich told the Coloradoan Wednesday.

The cost of labor, coupled with the amount of staff the Scotch Pines Village shop needs to operate, made the business financially unfeasible, Krekich said. Rising food costs — something Krekich saw a marked increase in since late last year — also contributed, she said.

Krekich had always dreamed of owning a shop like The Fox and the Crow, 2601 S. Lemay Ave., and jumped at the chance to buy it when its previous owners, Tina and Alan Mooney, announced it would close if a buyer didn't step forward in early 2022. The Mooneys opened The Fox and the Crow in 2014.

The business will shutter at the end of the year — something Krekich announced on The Fox and the Crow Facebook page Tuesday.

"Everybody's sad. We're all sad," Krekich said. "It's been nine years, and it's a special location. It's a special market."

Following the announcement, Krekich said diners came out in droves for lunch at the shop Wednesday. Krekich and her staff are now preparing for a busy holiday season — or "platter land" as they call it — when holiday charcuterie board orders roll in.

"We're expecting to be very, very busy the rest of the year, so please be patient," Krekich said.
