These Four Xbox Games May Be Coming to PlayStation Soon

Microsoft is slowly starting to break down the barriers of console exclusivity by bringing four Xbox-exclusive games to other platforms. During a special episode of the official Xbox podcast, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer confirmed the shift in strategy.

This follows after weeks of rumors and speculation from games media all across the internet, and the situation seems to be much simpler than expected. No, Indiana Jones and Starfield won’t be coming to PlayStation, at least not anytime soon. Spencer chose not to reveal what games will be going multi-platform, but a report from The Verge, combined with some educated guessing, shines the light on these four games:

  • Hi-Fi Rush

  • Pentiment

  • Sea of Thieves

  • Grounded

“A couple of the games are community-driven games, new games, kind of first iterations of a franchise that have reached their full potential, let's say on Xbox and PC,” said Spencer on the Xbox Podcast. Sea of Thieves and Grounded fit the bill quite neatly on those terms, and given that there were rumors of the former joining PlayStation anyway, that seems to be a safe bet. Both games have been on the Xbox platform for many years now, and increasing their player base with other platforms would lead to a healthier ecosystem for the service-based nature of these titles.

“Two of the other games are smaller games that were never really meant to be built as kind of platform exclusives and all the fanfare that goes around that, but games that our teams really wanted to go build that we love supporting creative endeavors across our studios regardless of size.”

Hi-Fi Rush was a surprise hit last year that was released on Xbox and PC right after its announcement, and evidence suggests that it was in development before Tango Gameworks was acquired by Microsoft. Pentiment was a much smaller game from Obsidian Entertainment that, despite great reviews, never got the attention, or player base in this case, it deserved. It’s clear that neither of these games were designed to drive console sales, so bringing them to PS5 and Nintendo Switch makes a lot of sense.

It remains to be seen whether Xbox surprises everyone by releasing any of its legacy franchises on PlayStation.

Hi-Fi Rush, Pentiment, Sea of Thieves and Grounded are currently available on PC and Xbox consoles, along with being on Xbox Game Pass.
