Four Palm Beach hotels make cut for list of cold-weather escapes
Just as South Florida begins to cool down, folks in locations up north have begun looking for opportunities to get out of town and warm up once the freeze sets in.
As temperatures continue to drop in places where snow boots aren’t an option but a necessity, the team at Elle Decor — the home decorating and furnishings arm of the popular Elle magazine brand — has crafted a list of 15 South Florida resorts to visit this winter.
And, no surprise: Four of them 15 are right here in Palm Beach.

While the luxurious Ocean Key Resort and Spa in Key West took the No. 1 spot, the White Elephant boutique hotel on Sunset Avenue ranked second on the list.
The resort opened in 2020, becoming the first satellite location of the historic hotel of the same name on Nantucket. In just three years, it has become an international hit, ranking on best-of lists and drawing a celebrity fanbase.
The Four Seasons Resort Palm Beach on South Ocean Boulevard was placed at No. 5 on the list.
“Luxury junkies do not come back from Palm Beach unimpressed, and this resort is about as impressive as it gets,” the list’s writer said, citing the Four Seasons’ many amenities, including its private beach and two oceanfront pools.

Coming in at No. 9 on Elle Decor’s list is The Breakers, the iconic must-stay resort for those who want a taste of classic Palm Beach.
The multi-award winning historic resort is the definition of iconic, Elle Decor’s writer said. Founded in 1896 by Henry Morrison Flagler, many notable — and notorious — guests have crossed The Breakers’ threshold. Some truly big name celebrities have spent time within The Breakers’ gilded halls: Cary Grant, John F. and Jackie Kennedy, Elizabeth Taylor and more.
The final Palm Beach entry on the list is The Colony Hotel, at No. 13.
The landmark known as “Pink Paradise” recently underwent a major renovation that included not only a fresh coat of paint on the outside, but major upgrades to the interiors, including a custom line of furniture.
Just last week, The Colony and tastemaker-actress Gwyneth Paltrow unveiled the hotel’s new Goop Villa, a luxury, two-bedroom, two-bath space that clocks in at more than 2,500 square feet and includes Goop skin care and body products in the bathrooms.

One other Palm Beach County spot, the Boca Raton Beach Club in Boca, was included on the list at No. 11.
Elle's list follows the recent recognition of several Palm Beach resorts by Condé Nast Traveler’s 2023 Readers’ Choice Awards, which were announced earlier this month.
The Four Seasons Resort in Palm Beach and Eau Palm Beach Resort and Spa in Manalapan were listed among the best resorts in the world and were the top two resorts in Florida, according to the awards.
Three other Palm Beach hotels — The Breakers, The Colony Hotel and Brazilian Court — were included on that list.
