Four Hands Just Launched Their First-Ever Collaboration with Amber Lewis—And It's Too Good

In a world where design collaborations are as common as seasonal launches, it takes a lot to create something that stands out among the crowd. Austin, Texas-based furniture brand Four Hands and designer Amber Lewis of Amber Interiors have done just that.

The collaboration, launching just in time for High Point Spring Market, is one that you can use to furnish an entire home without the fear of it feeling one-dimensional. A thoughtful use of materiality, interesting neutral color and precise detailing make this expansive collection, featuring over 200 pieces, feel storied, multifaceted and refreshingly accessible. Every element, from the accents on a side table to the carefully upholstered furnishings, was thoroughly considered by both teams.

Los Angeles-based Lewis says, “The pieces are very timeless. They’re very classic. I don’t love a trend. I really like for things to feel like it could be from 10 years ago, 15 years ago or from 10 years, 15 years from now."

Lewis worked closely with Four Hands' Vice President of Design Adam Dunn to bring this collection to fruition. Their connection is one that feels more like a work marriage than the traditional, one-off collaboration we've grown accustomed to.

"Part of our success is that we’ve grown something really special and so much of that is our design language and intent," Dunn says. "I’ve known [Lewis's] aesthetic for a while because I followed [her] for forever. I’ve always always been a fan so I feel like I get it."

Lewis adds, "When you speak the same language as someone it really becomes 'Oh you get what I’m saying? You know the thing with that side?' He’ll say something technical and I’m like exactly."

The connection shows through the story of the collection which ranges from outdoor furniture to artwork, all of which have deep importance for both brands. However, the most valuable part of the collaboration is the small details. It's the moments you might just miss, like the ruffle of a curtain in a cabinet, that make it special.

Lewis says, "We asked ourselves: How do we add something? How to do we make it feel more unique without feeling more specifically unique? So, we did that in detail. We did that in construction."

Softer, more feminine lines where they might be unexpected and a touch of color are some of the details that make the Amber Lewis collaboration stand out from the slightly more conservative style of Four Hands.

Dunn says, "I really like the visual age that we added to everything. I like that the linens that we used are really pretty, they’re feathery, they’re soft and the dye technique that we used for them just gave them a lot of age. Even the marbles. There’s no carrara, there’s no sharp, modern looking stone. They look like older stones and are more primitive in their structure and look."

The softer, more aged look allows for the collaboration to accomplish something timeless that fits into the ever-growing "New Traditional" aesthetic that has gotten so many on social media excited.

"Our fabric selection is really strong. I love a stripe and so we were able to get a sofa that has a stripe that I really love," Lewis gushes. "I love that we have a little bit of what I like and it’s a very neutral pattern so it will look great in anybody's home."
