Founding Member of '90s Rock Band Accused of Murdering His Girlfriend

Theobald "Theo" Lengyel, a founding member of the experimental rock band Mr. Bungle, was arrested this week in connection with the suspected death of his girlfriend who disappeared last month.

According to the Capitola Police Department, 61-year-old Alice "Alyx" Kamakaokalani Hermann was last seen on Dec. 3, 2023. Nine days later, on Dec. 12, her family reported her missing after she missed a flight to Hawaii. Lengyel, 54, who also goes by the name Mylo Stone, was ruled as a suspect following a weeks-long investigation.

He was arrested on first-degree murder charges with assistance from the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday, after detectives discovered human remains in a wooded area within Tilden Regional Park in Berkeley, CA, about 80 miles north of Capitola where Kamakaokalani lived.

Though the identification of the remains and cause of death is pending DNA confirmation, authorities believe the victim is indeed Kamakaokalani.

According to the local KTVY news affiliate, Lengyel had been uncooperative from the start of the investigation, even after the victim's car had been found parked in front of his El Cerrito, CA home.

"As the investigation progressed, it became clear that foul play was involved, leading to the identification of Theobald Lengyel as a suspect," said Capitola Police Chief Andrew Dally. "The investigation led investigators to a wooded area within Tilden Regional Park in Berkeley."

An avid paddler and member of the Outrigger Santa Cruz canoe paddling group, Kamakaokalani had apparently been excited about her trip to Hawaii.

"I was not there the last day she paddled [on Dec. 3], but everybody said that she was excited about an upcoming trip to Hawaii and that she was in a great mood and happy," said Theresa Mulder, an Outrigger Santa Cruz Women’s Coach. "That’s how I remember her, smiley."

Mr. Bungle was formed in 1985 along with Faith No More frontman Mike Patton. Though the band still occasionally tours today, Lengyel, who served as alto saxophonist, left the group for good in 1996.
