Last night, RiRi proved that if you're going to arrive extremely late to the Met Gala, you better have a damn good makeup look and a few wedding rumors to show for it. All Chanel brides aside, Rihanna's Met Gala makeup was everything fans asked for and more. From the fake lashes on her sunglasses to her signature red lip paint, Rihanna's campy beauty choices felt true to both her personal style and Karl's.
"For the 2023 Met Gala, we paired an iconic Rihanna-red lip with a glamorous yet edgy high-shimmer, pearlescent eye," Priscilla Ono, the Fenty Beauty Global Makeup Artist responsible for Rihanna's consistently flawless makeup, said in a press release. "We felt like the combination, matched with a soft-matte, chiseled complexion, celebrated the same classic yet modern beauty of Karl Lagerfeld’s designs.”
While Rihanna sported Fenty Beauty's newer Icon Velvet Liquid Lipstick and Icon Semi-Matte Refillable Lipstick at the Superbowl and Oscars respectively, she stuck with her OG red lipstick—the Fenty Beauty Stunna Lip Paint in 'Uncensored'—to compliment her all-white Met Gala look. Despite new product launches and shade releases, the superstar has remained loyal to the universally-flattering red for years.
"Whenever we have a big lip moment, like tonight, I lather Fenty Skin Plush Puddin' Lip Mask on her lips the second we start glam, even though the lip color application is the last thing we do," shared Ono. "I love for her lips to really soak up all that hydration, so her lips are full and smooth so that color just glides on."
Beneath her eyelash-adorned sunglasses, Rihanna wore her beauty brand's new Hella Thicc Volumizing Mascara and a glamorous metallic eye created using the Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter in "Lightning Dust/Fire Crystal" and the "Velvet Cuffs" shade of the True Neutrals Snap Shadows Mix & Match Eyeshadow Palette.
To create Rihanna's soft matte skin, Ono used her signature double-blur technique which involves multiple super-light layers of Fenty Beauty's Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation and Powder Foundation. Contour, bronzer, and a dab of Invisimatte Blotting Powder later, and the soon-to-be mother of two was ready for the Met Gala steps—only an hour behind schedule.
